To Port Vincent

On the way to Port Vincent we stopped to look around the range at Port Wakefield

Abandoned Farmhouse on Yorke Peninsular

Australia Day - January 26th - was spent in the company of friends. John brought a crayfish (lobster) that he'd caught.  It weighed in at 4kg so was quite a feed.  A traditional Aussie dish is a Pavlova and our friend Jan our "Domestic Godess" whipped one up for us!

There are some beautiful beaches on the Yorke Peninsular.  This is Tickera Beach with the tide out.  Lots of photographic opportunities here.

Around Adelaide

Adelaide Arcade, off Rundle Mall

There are several named bronze pigs in the Rundle Mall shopping area.

The old tram from Adelaide to Glenelg.  This was run from the 1930s until 2007 when replaced by a more modern version.  This was affectionally known as "the old rattler" and now this has a limited outing at weekends for the benefit of the tourists.
Glenelg Jetty - a very popular area to watch the sun going down.
Life Guard Tower at Glenelg. Keeping a watchful eye on the many locals and tourists using the beach, especially at weekends.
A view of Glenelg from the jetty

The Hindmarsh Monument at Glenelg is dedicated to the early settlers of South Australia.

The beach at Glenelg is one of the many surrounding Adelaide and is a favourite with locals as well as tourists.  There is a vibrant cafe and restaurant culture in Glenelg.
Enjoying people watching at Glenelg with a schooner of pure blonde - about 1/2 a pint.

Our friends Graham & Jan have a beautiful Blue Heeler called Bluey. Blue Heelers are bred as working cattle dogs but Bluey is a family pet and a real souk!
Olive trees in the Adelaide Hills.

Enjoying a Coopers Dark Ale!

On to Adelaide

Departing KLIA.  Taking the night flight to Adelaide

Dawn breaking over Adelaide - taken through the aircraft's window.

Arriving at our hotel in Adelaide - The Rockford on Hindley Street.

For all our friends at the Coffee Republic in Eastbourne that are following our trip, this is Gloria Jeans in Hindley Street, Adelaide.

Adelaide's newest trams. They can carry more passengers than the first trams and are free to travel on through the City.  You only pay a fare if you are going out of the city.

Shoppers Paradise

KL has over 240 shopping centres.  One of the latest, which has all the top label designer stores such as Gucci, Prada and Versace, is the Pavilion.  This centre is centrally located in the midst of KL's thriving shopping district and has over 450 stores.  The shopping experience here is in line with New York's 5th Avenue or Tokyo's Ginza.  A place for the ladies to give the card a real good caning and the husband's a real headache!

Strange Weather

The rain is a month early. Strange weather everywhere.

Our first night in KL and we are greeted with lightning and heavy monsoonal rain.  Normally people would be carrying umbrellas to protect themselves from the sun but they were needed for the rain!

After the rain finishes there are beautiful reflections on the pavements.

We've arrived at our stopover

Arrived at Kuala Lumpur International airport.  A good place for duty-free shopping if that's your thing. Then catch the Arrow Train to immigration and baggage reclaim.

KLIA is about 70km outside of the city so you need to either take a taxi or the KLIA Ekspres if you want to go into the city. The train runs every 15 minutes and reaches speeds of 160kmp so covers the distance in just 28 minutes. There is also the choice of an airport bus.

The Petronas Towers are the tallests Towers in the world and can be seen from many hotels around the city, including ours. Marvelous views of the city and surrounds can be seen from the bridge joining the two towers, which is 44 floors up and reached in a matter of seconds in their high-speed lifts which may make your ears pop!

On our way!

For the past two weeks we were worried that we wouldn't be taking off on time as we had severe adverse weather conditions with snow, ice and fog.  As per usual the UK came to a standstill! Come the day of take off it was a perfect winters morning, sunny and wind free.  What a day to fly!

We like to fly with Malaysian Airlines as you get 34 inches of leg room as standard in economy. For a long haul flight size does matter!

The crew were fantastic and a little bit of flirting scored extra red wines!
